Having grown up in San Antonio, I came to Baylor as an undergrad in 1990. While here I majored in English, became an editor of the Baylor literary magazine The Phoenix, and met my wife, Jodi Heston. We now have two great boys, Will and Ben.
After graduating, Jodi and I began began working in Waco ISD. I wave been a teacher at University High and G. W. Carver Academy Middle School. At Carver I helped form the Geek Squad and the NASA Team which created an experiment that I got to take aboard NASA's Weightless Wonder astronaut training aircraft. I was named Waco ISD's Teacher of the Year in 2006 and the National Middle School Association's Distinguished Educator in 2011. I also worked as an instructional specialist at Carver and an assistant principal at Tennyson Middle School and Atlas Academy. For fun I enjoy oil painting and have shown my work at the Silver Maple Gallery and also live-paint at weddings. My work can be seen at JimHeston.com.
