Fair Use
From the Baylor Library Information Systems:
None of these documents represent “law”, but they do represent surveys of the appropriate communities to ascertain what people in the field are actually doing regarding “fair use” within their community, and these documents represent the common practices in these communities. The theory is that if these are reasonable and common practices within the appropriate communities, they are less likely to be determined to be violations of copyright law and/or fair use should it come to a court case. Links to all of these can be found on the copyright website in the “Fair Use” section: http://www.baylor.edu/copyright/index.php?id=56543#fairuse.
