Accountability Management System (AMS) – a TaskStream system to coordinate broad assessment data
ADDIE Model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) – a systemic instructional design model.

Advanced Standing – A graduate degree option for students who have earned an undergraduate degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education resulting in completion of the MSW degree in a shorter period of time.

Audacity -- Avatars – a graphic that represents a particular person on a video game, discussion board, or other technological application.

Bandwidth -- the amount of data that an internet connection can carry, often referred to as "strength of signal"

BlackBoard Collaborate (often just Collaborate) – a BlackBoard tool that utilizing online whiteboard-centered virtual classes and includes features for video-conferencing and presentation-sharing
BlackBoard Elluminate – the former name for Collaborate
Blended Learning (Hybrid Learning) – a formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through online delivery of content and instruction with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace.
Blog – Short for web log, a blog is a public journal posted to the internet or a LMS.

Community Connection -- produced twice a year, this publication of the School goes to alumni, donors, Board of Advocates members, faculty and staff, and friends of the School. Copies are available to students at the School and on the School's website.
Competencies – Areas that guide social work curriculum are called competencies, reflecting standards from CSWE, with outcomes in areas of practice behaviors of knowledge, skills, and values.
Concentration – the second, or advanced, year of the MSW curriculum (for students who have completed the Foundation Year or who have a BSW). See also Foundation.
Congregational Social Work – Social work within faith congregations.
Constructivism – an educational philosophy based around how information is formed when it is related to knowledge of experience; applications include: hands-on, collaborative, project-based learning.

Convocation – on the day preceding Baylor University's commencement exercises in May, the School of Social Work holds a Convocation ceremony to recognize and honor its graduates. Face-to-face – Because this can refer to classes/meetings that take place in person, in the same location as opposed to at a distance but can also refer to synchronous video-conferenced classes/meetings, we try to avoid using this term.
Facilitator – This term refers to a style of teaching (often in active, group, or project learning) where the instructor coordinates, analyzes, and guides students in more independent learning.
Fall Worship Service – the School begins each academic year with a worship service in the School of Social Work Living Room with a guest speaker and special music. A reception follows (business dress).
Family Dinner – not just another banquet, but more like a family reunion, this spring event celebrates another successful academic year where students, faculty, staff, BOA members and other friends enjoy a catered meal and presentations by student award recipients, and the School of Social Work Alumni of the Year (business dress).
Field Education – field internships for BSW and MSW students, considered the signature pedagogy of social work education.
Flipped Classroom (Flip Teaching) – a form of blended learning in which students learn new content online by watching video lectures, usually at home, and what used to be homework (assigned problems) is now done in class with teacher offering more personalized guidance and interaction with students, instead of lecturing.

Homecoming Reception – Homecoming festivities with the Baylor School of Social work begin with a come-and-go reception on the Friday before the football game in the second floor Living Room of the SSW building. All alumni, current students and their families are invited to come by for fellowship, refreshments, to reconnect with former professors and for a tour of the building.
Homeroom – The Cisco/Jabber carts are used and stored in certain classrooms each semester called homerooms. The carts can be moved from these rooms but it is recommended to limit this practice.

Lariat -- owned and published by Baylor University as a service to the Baylor community and as a laboratory newspaper for aspiring journalists, the newspaper is overseen by the Student Publications Board and staff members of the student publications department. New issues appear weekly Tuesday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters and are distributed free on campus. The editor-in-chief and staff are selected through an application and interview process.

Phi Alpha Honor Society – The Baylor School of Social Work has a chapter of the national Phi Alpha Honor Society. The purpose of Phi Alpha is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. It fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have excelled in scholarship and achievement in social work. Must meet requirements.
The Phoenix – a student-run magazine of Baylor University, has been a forum for students to publish their literary and artistic work for over 50 years. Each year, the magazine publishes a variety of original, unpublished pieces produced by undergraduate and graduate students, including (but not necessarily limited to) poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drawings, paintings, photography and lithography. Photo Wall of Graduates -- Group photos of each graduating cohort are taken and placed on the School's Photo Wall, a popular gathering spot each year at the Homecoming Reception.

Homecoming Reception – Homecoming festivities with the Baylor School of Social work begin with a come-and-go reception on the Friday before the football game in the second floor Living Room of the SSW building. Lariat -- owned and published by Baylor University as a service to the Baylor community and as a laboratory newspaper for aspiring journalists, the newspaper is overseen by the Student Publications Board and staff members of the student publications department.
